Wind-power seen on Maui

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I love the idea of using sustainable energy. It had been about two years since we had last visited the island of Maui and there was something new on the horizon. Wind powered turbines can be seen in a row going up a hillside, Kaheawa Wind Farm. Since the tradewinds seem to blow frequently and strongly in that area, I’m sure the wind farm is a valuable asset to the island. In fact, the 20 wind turbines are supposed to provide 20% of the power for the island and there are thoughts of expanding.

Running in Maui

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

You would think that running in Maui would be a breeze. Although it was breezy, it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I did a 4-mile run from Kihea to Wailea, expecting to have a record breaking time. The thing I did not anticipate was hills. Wailea is absolutely beautiful with tree-lined streets and plenty of hills. My time was not amazing, but at least I had a chance to continue my training for my upcoming 10K race.

The lesson learned: Don’t forget about hills. I really need to work on adding some hill workouts to my weekly routine. Thanks Wailea!!
